Every fruit or vegetable that you eat fuels your body and boosts your immune system. For centuries, they have been a staple in diets around the world, and modern science continues to show us what eating onions can do for our collective health. Uniting Together to Fight for Good HealthĪt Gills Onions and throughout the onion industry, we truly believe that onions are the perfect vegetable. So, when in doubt, add some onion into your diet. Recent studies at Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands, demonstrate that the body absorbs three times more quercetin from onions than from apples. It strengthens capillary walls to reduce inflammation and can also protect the lining of the lungs and bronchial tubes from damage caused by pollution and other contaminants in the air. Studies have shown that quercetin eliminates free radicals in the body, protects and regenerates vitamin E, and deactivates the harmful effects of chelate metal ions. It also has antiviral properties and histamine regulating effects. Like apples, onions contain quercet i n, a powerful antioxidant that helps delay oxidative damage to cells and tissue. ![]() They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but the same could be said of onions. Those same sulfuric compounds that prevent inflammation also help fight mucus and act as a natural expectorant. Drinking onion juice or making your own onion syrup can soothe irritated throats. The National Onion Association also reports that the organosulfur compounds responsible for the taste and smell of onions can reduce symptoms from diabetes and prevent inflammation from asthma.įor centuries, onions have been used as a home remedy to treat coughs and colds. Onions, especially, give your body the power to battle toxins that lead to illness because they contain high amounts of essential nutrients including: Instead of gravitating toward processed foods, reach for fresh fruits and vegetables. ![]() Remember that the food you eat can help your immune system prepare to fight germs and disease in a post-COVID world. However, this model also includes a round “favorite” button in the middle of the switch. The PD-5NE also has on and off buttons, plus raise and lower dimmer buttons. Be sure you have a neutral wire before purchasing this model. The Lutron Caséta PD-5NE dimmer switch requires a neutral wire and supports ELV and MLV light bulbs. The Lutron Caséta Smart Switch – Model PD-5NE PD-6WCL-WH is the white model, but it also comes in Ivory (IV), Light Almond (LA), and Black (BL). If you use higher-wattage bulbs (only up to 150W), you’ll be limited to fewer bulbs. The PD-6WCL switch can control up to 17 regular 60W incandescent (or 8.5W LED) bulbs. You can also void your warranty if you use an untested LED bulb. If you are using LED bulbs, use Lutron’s LED compatibility tool to ensure you don’t have issues with flickering. ![]() The switch is compatible with LED, compact fluorescent, incandescent, and halogen bulbs. All standard Decorative or Rocker wall plates work with the PD-6WCL. Still, ours fit quite easily into our existing single-gang boxes. The switch is deeper than a standard rocker switch since it has to include the Clear Connect radio for communications, so it will be helpful to have a deeper electrical back box. A rectangular tab under the lower button pulls out to disable the switch when changing light bulbs. A series of seven indicator lights along the left side help you identify the light level setting. This switch version has standard on and off buttons plus two dimmer controls for raising and lowering the light levels. Not needing a neutral wire is extremely helpful for people who live in older homes where the wiring generally doesn’t include a neutral. The Lutron Caséta PD-6WCL Smart Dimmer Switch is one of the few smart switches on the market that does not require a neutral wire. The Lutron Caséta Smart Switch – Model PD-6WCL ![]() Offering the ultimate convenience and flexibility, the Caséta Wireless family allows you to adjust your lights and shades from anywhere in the room with Pico remotes or on the go using your smartphone or tablet with the Lutron app and Smart Bridge. Therefore, all accessories must be within 60 feet of the bridge.Ĭontrolling lights has never been easier, more reliable, or more affordable with Caséta wireless dimmers and remotes. You can only extend the range once per system. To extend the wireless range, you must install a lamp dimmer within range, adding another thirty feet of coverage. The standard range of one device is thirty feet or 2500 square feet. To connect to Clear Connect, you use the Lutron Smart Bridge – accessed through the cloud during the initial setup process. As with most home automation hubs, the Smart Bridge requires an Ethernet connection to your router so you can access it when you are away from home.īecause of Clear Connect, the Lutron Caséta does not affect your home’s internet performance or bandwidth (although that isn’t a problem since smart hubs only use a small amount of data). It also uses Wi-Fi to connect to other systems, like Nest. Clear Connect is a wireless technology that uses the low-use 434 MHz frequency band to communicate with individual control devices. The system communicates using the proprietary Lutron Clear Connect protocol. You can also link it to smart home hubs and control your lights with Samsung SmartThings, Wink, or Apple HomeKit. In addition, the system connects to other smart home products, so you can use voice commands, control thermostats, or play Sonos music. The Lutron Caséta Wireless system is mainly used for controlling lights, but it can also control window shades. You deserve all the praise for completing another full trip around the sun. It’s okay if a little bit of the frosting mixes with the frosting on the sides of the cake - it’ll get blended later.Round of applause. Gently, smooth it out using your offset spatula until it is spread all over the top. ![]() If doing a monochromatic gradient, this should be the lightest color. Save half of it for the top of the cake.ĭecorating the top: Using an offset spatula, dollop the color you decided for the top of your cake on top. If the last color will be the color for the top of your cake, do not mix all of it into the previous color to create a gradient. Keep repeating these steps until you reach the last color. There is no exact science to mixing the colors we just want to keep mixing a little bit of the next color into the previous color to keep creating shades that gently blend into one another. Once you’ve piped the second band of frosting, empty out the contents from the piping bag into that first bowl and add all of the remaining frosting from the second color, mix well, and refill the bag. Pipe the next band of color on top of the previous ring of frosting. Refill the same bag with the newly mixed color. Mix the two frostings together until fully incorporated. For example, if we started with red, now we’ll add a small amount of orange to the remaining red frosting to create a color that is somewhere in between red and orange. Gradient: To create a smooth gradient, we will add a little bit of the next adjacent color. Push as much frosting out of the bag as you can. Once you pipe a full ring of frosting, empty out the remaining frosting back into its bowl. (If you’re doing a monochromatic gradient, start with the darkest color and move to the lighter color as you move up the cake.) It’s okay if it’s a little jagged or crooked, as it will be blended and smoothed later - just try your best to keep it even. ![]() Start by piping a band of frosting on the bottom of the cake. Pull your chilled cake from the fridge and place it on the turn table. Push any air from the bag by gathering the frosting toward the tip - a straight edge like a bench knife is helpful here to scrape the frosting toward the bottom of the bag. If you’re doing a monochromatic gradient, start with the darkest color here. Start off by filling the pastry bag with the frosting color that you want to be on the bottom of the cake. This will help you fill the pastry bag with frosting. Fold half of the pastry bag over itself and place it into a tall heavy glass. Push the tip until it fits snug into the pastry bag. Place a medium or large round tip into a pastry bag and snip the end. Adding a little color at a time gives you the most control over the final color. Once evenly divided, add your food coloring to each bowl. (If you’re decorating the top of the cake white, reserve the same amount of frosting as the other colors.)Įvenly divide the remaining frosting between three to four bowls (depending on how many different colors you want to mix). It’s always good to have a little extra plain frosting in case you need to patch something up or adjust one of the colors. Take a few spoons of plain frosting and set it aside. Using these tips while choosing your color palette will allow your ombre to smoothly transition without giving you any muddy colors. You can also do light to dark hues in the same family for a monochromatic look. For example, I’m using the colors pink, red, orange, and yellow, which are inspired by the sunset. Step 4: Pick your color paletteįor an ombre cake, you want tones of color that shade into each other, graduating from light to dark, so it’s best to stick with three to four colors that are adjacent in the color family. See more details: How to crumb coat a cake, or watch it in action: How to frost layers with a crumb coat. Once frosted, place the cake in the fridge for 15 to 20 minutes to chill. This thin frosting layer traps all the little crumbs that come loose while frosting, ensuring a smooth, crumb-free finish when you frost the final layer. Use an offset spatula to spread a thin layer of frosting over the whole cake. Crab spiders Crab spidersĬommon name: Crab spiders, goldenrod crab spider, flower spiderĬrab spiders are an atypical species that can change colors from white to yellow and back. The pain is sharp but it doesn’t lead to any other complications outside skin-level reactions.Įdema and red skin are common following a Northern Yellow Sac spider bite. This pale-yellow spider is known to cause pain with its bite. The Northern Yellow Sac spider is a very common species often believed to be the spider that bites humans the most. This spider grows to a size of 0.5 inches. The Northern Yellow Sac spider is commonly seen in a pale yellow or a pale green color. Northern Yellow Sac Spider Northern Yellow Sac Spider The Yellow Garden spider recreates its spider web each night. Only mildly venomous, the Yellow Garden spider has weak venom used against prey such as garden flies. The legs might also appear partially yellow but they are red-brown upon close inspection and slightly darker than the yellow marks on the body. Spiders of this genus have yellow markings on the abdomen and the cephalothorax. This species is characterized by a dual-color body that’s both yellow and black. The Yellow Garden spider is one of the most common yellow spiders in North America. This allows them to maintain camouflage waiting for prey to come close to the flower. Yellow spiders that live on flowers tend to change or adapt colors to the color of the flower they live on. Yellow spiders can sometimes change their color as it’s the case with Crab spiders.Īn evolutionary trait allows these rare spiders to adapt their coloring depending on their immediate surroundings. This means these spiders are only venomous to small prey such as insects and not to people. Some yellow spiders such as the Wasp spider are only mildly venomous. Their venomous bite is dependent on their species rather than being dependent on other factors such as coloring. She had no interest in shooting groups off bags, but she had a good time standing and hitting zombie targets at 5,10, 15 and 25 yards. Anyway this is more of a fun gun and trainer for my wife, but having the ability to still use the hard sights with the dot are still important to me. I ended up sighting it in at 25 yards which was giving right about 1" groups, The speer gold dots produced some sub 1" 5 shot groups at 25 yards. I usually set up my sights to co-witness lower 1/3 on ARs, but I am not too concerned with the CX4. With a little off the top, I can use the hard sights perfectly with the red dot sitting an inch above. Took a file to the hole in the mount which is there to reduce weight. Definitely not anything like my aimpoints or eotech, but it worked out. I put a bushnell TRS-32 on it whic has a 5 moa dot. I was getting about 3-3 1/2" groups at 50 yards mostly due to the below average trigger. I could do about 2-3" groups at 50 yards - yet, I could put the CX4 down, pick up a Rock River, and shoot a clover leaf, all touching. Only very few people would claim to get less at 100 yards. That seems to be the norm at the Beretta Forum too. I've found that the CX4 isn't the greatest at 100 yards. Any idea on the difference in bullet drop between the 115 and 147 at 50-100 yards? I can see using 147 grain if in a supressor legal state, but for now I have a good supply of 115gr and 124s. It won't be run supressed since I am in NY, but being LEO, I am able to have standard capacity magazines. I know I need to spend some time on it, but looking for starting points. Most likely range would be 3-50 yards, but would like to know where I am hitting at 100. I like my handguns(glocks, sigs, 1911s and revolvers) and rifles, but can see the value in a pistol caliber carbine. I do see potential to extend handgun range with an easy to use set up. The cx4 seems to be a good option where she can get some time behind a rifle platform and use a red dot. She has no problems shooting my 10/22, s&w mp 22 compact, but doesn't like rifles too much. Helpful?I picked the cx4 up mainly to train my wife. Never more than 4 inches high low from the muzzle to 100. So basically my maximum point blank range is 100 meters. Its about 3 inches high at 50 and about 4 inches low at 100 (147gr standard pressure). Going from memory, I zeroed the gun to be about 2 inches high at 25 yards which puts it pretty close to dead on from the muzzle to 25 yards. I live in an open floor plan rambler and the longest conceivable short indoors is about 20 yards (across the kitchen, dining room and living room or down a hallway), but most will likely be far closer. I use a 9mm SBR with a can as one of my home defense guns. If you are shooting a 9mm at 100 yards you probably need a rifle caliber. Thank you in advance for any opinions!I think it depends on use case. ![]() Just wanted to see what others are using. Since it is a pistol caliber with a low riser I was thinking 25 yards should be close with maybe 3-6" hold over, depending on ammo, at 100 yards.
